Following is the Burbank Branch in N scale trackplan, a switching layout I am currently building. Selective compression and proto-freelance compromises form the foundation for the reduced footprint of the layout.
Size is 330cm / 10’9″ by 90cm / 3′ (left) and 150cm / 4’11” (right). Depth 30 to 40cm (1′ to 1’4″)
Industries on the layout are served by local freight trains. Here I selectively compressed 5 destinations in a relatively small space.
- Hendricks Builders Supply Company – Located in the former trolley station of the early 1900s, it receives boxcar loads. Should be an interesting structure to scratchbuild.
- National Ready Mixed Concrete – Receives rocks and sand via open hoppers and gondolas, Portland cement via covered hoppers.
- Team Track – There were many team tracks along the branch. Here are spotted boxcars, gondolas and some flatcars.
- Oroweat Bakery – Covered hoppers loaded with wheat, flour and rye. Occasional outbound boxcar full of wooden pallets.
- Georgia-Pacific Corporation – Inbound flatcars loaded with lumber. Outbound boxcars with finished products.
